FARM OF THE CONVENT OF THE JESUIT FATHERS
A few kilometres after Chtaura, turn right towards the convent of the Jesuit Fathers of Taanayel (there is a petrol station just before). The history of this convent dates back to 1860, when six Jesuit fathers were killed in Zahle and Deir el-Qamar during the civil war. In 1863, to compensate for these murders, a 230-hectare plot belonging to the French State was ceded to the Jesuits. Covered with swamps, the plot was developed from 1871 to 1880 and became fertile.
Today, the Taanayel estate is renowned for its educational farm, managed by the Arc en Ciel association since 2009, which has more than 100 dairy cows, 80 hectares of fruit trees, 90 hectares of wine grapes... Many activities are offered: bike rental, horseback riding or horse-drawn carriage rides, games for children... A shop offers for sale the products manufactured on the estate: yogurt, milk, ploughed, laban, jam... everything is excellent and guaranteed without additives! With a reservation at Taanayel Ecolodge, a bike tour of the farm is offered.
