GREAT SERAGLIO OF EMIR YOUSSEF CHEHAB
In front of the Kaïssariyé, in the south, across the street, this third palace was originally built to be the residence of Fakhreddine I. It was then expanded in the th century by Youssef Chéhab who occupied it, as well as the Emir Bachir II II before investing the palace of Beiteddine. This beautiful building is currently the seat of the town hall of Deir el-Qamar. The lower floor, built in the th century, was successively transformed into soap, cleaning, stable and prison. The upper floor (at the midan level) was raised later by the Chéhab emirs. In 1810, Bachir II left to join Beiteddine. You enter the Seraglio with a magnificent portal with bas-reliefs representing two lions. Then we arrive in a central courtyard around which beautiful pieces decorated with arcades, stone fireplaces and painted woodwork are opened.
