Open to the public in 1997, the Shuf cedar reserve covers 5% km ² of the area of Lebanon. This reserve occupies almost all the peaks of the mountain of the Aïn de Ain Zhalta in Jazzin. Only 550 ha of this surface are forested. At an altitude of 900 to 1 950 m, the reserve is characterized by its biodiversity (24 genera of trees and over 524 plants and flowers). It also houses some animal species such as mountain gazelles, wolves, hyenas, lynx.

Randonnée au milieu des cèdres millénaires
Attention la réserve ferme à 17h et les gardiens insistent pour que vous commenciez à repartir à 16h30 (15 min en voiture depuis la barrière de l'entrée jusqu'au début des sentiers). Plusieurs sentiers de randonnée, idéal pour voir les fameux cèdres du Liban. C'est en altitude donc il y fait moins chaud que sur la côte.

La réserve des cèdres du Chouf est un des sites naturels du Liban les plus visités.
A un peu plus d'une heure de Beirut (comptez deux avec les embouteillages fréquents ;D), un vrai bol d'air frais.
Attention, entrée payante, mais qui reste modérée.
Peu de facilités par contre...
On y va pour une ballade facile, pour petits et grands, en se remplissant les poumons d'air frais, à l'abris du soleil.
