TIBNINE CASTLE
Perched at 870 m above sea level and known as Taron, the fortress of Tibnin was founded in 1104 by Hugues de Saint-Omer. He intended to use it as a point of support for the conquest of Tyre at the hands of Muslims and the basis for prevention in attempts to invade the fatimides armies. Conquered by Saladin in 1187 and then in the hands of the Arabs until 1229, it is picked up by the crusaders. In 1266, the sultan mameluke Baibars took possession of it. The site was rebuilt in the th century by Daher el-Omar, Pasha of Acre. The site has an area of 1 100 m ². The wall and the towers are well preserved. The castle, which once consisted of 9 towers, kept a few square and semi-circular dates from the th century. The interior is a confused cluster of ruins. Entry is free.
