For St. John's Day, Turin celebrates a special folk festival around a large bonfire in Piazza Castello.
Yes, at the end of June, it is Saint John's Day, San Giovanni, in honor of the patron saint of the city, a religious and popular festival to which the Turinese are very attached. The highlight of the festival is the great bonfire lit in Piazza Castello, to observe which way the burnt shards fall - if they go north, it is bad luck, if they go south, it is a sign of good luck for the city. The second part of the festival is the fireworks display on the Po River on the evening of June 23. Attention! On June 24, all offices and shops are closed.
