PORTA PALATINA
Roman Gate, one of the vestiges of Roman Turin, and the only one of the city's four ancient gates still intact.
To the left of the cathedral are the remains of Roman Turin. Here we see a 1st- and 2nd-century enclosure, the only one of the Roman city's four ancient gates to have survived intact. The Roman gate with its four arches is framed by two polygonal towers, each with 16 faces and openings, built in medieval times, one of which is decorated at the top with crenellations dating from the very early 15th century. On the right-hand side of the gate, you'll see the remains of a Roman theater and paving dating from the same period.
