CHIESA DI SAN FRANCESCO
Church near the amphitheater with beautiful frescoes dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
Close to the amphitheatre, the church was founded at the same time as the adjoining convent, in 1244, by Beatrice of Savoy, to honour the passage of St. Francis of Assisi through the town. Its interior was badly damaged during the Napoleonic era, and the church was abandoned until 1879. After restoration, the monks regained possession of the complex in 1899, and today run a guest house. You can admire the chapter house, the13th-century cloister and, above all, the beautiful 14th- and 15th-century frescoes.
