Gate of military architecture with an access to the medieval center with 2 cylindrical towers
Built to defend the Roman city, this gate dates from the 3rd century and is a fine example of military architecture. Its two cylindrical towers are pierced with many small openings. It remained one of the city's gateways until the 18th century. The passageway arch, opened in 1750, gives access to the medieval centre, with its arcades, dwellings and the towers of the noble families. It is also known as the Gateway to Paradise, because the cemetery of San Giusto Cathedral was right next door...
