This fort was built in 1898, to defend the Italian west border, when the long carrot road was completed in the Fenils valley. Unlike other elevations of altitude, his battery was constantly loaded, except between 1915 and 1918. In winter, the fortress was monitored by a patrol of thirty alpine hunters, while during the beautiful season, patrols were carried out by gunners. The harsh clauses of the 1947 Peace Treaty attributed the ruins of the Fortress and much of the Mount Chaberton to France. The maisonettes and remains of the canons rusted were completely demolished in 1957. Today, only the ruins of its eight towers still bear witness to what the highest fortress in Europe had been in early 1900.
