This military fortress, the largest in Europe, is a colossal work of art that climbs 3 km to an altitude of 1,150 m on the crest of Mount Orsiera. Built in 1728 on the border with France, it comprises three forts - Forte Carlo Alberto, Forte San Carlo and Forte delle Valli - linked by 4,000 steps. Given the sheer size of the site, there are three possible visits: one, two or three forts, depending on time and energy (7h for the 3 forts). On-site restaurant!

A ne surtout pas rater le restaurant avec des mets locaux typiques à des prix contenus. A NOTER que c'est une association qui gère ce précieux patrimoine animé par des bénévoles. Notre conseil retenir une visite de 3 h le 1er jour, le 2éme faire le Fort Mutin (accès libre)sur la montagne en face où les Français ont été écrasés. Réserver le 3émé jour à la visite de 7 h.
