SAINT-LAURENT PALEOCHRISTIAN BASILICA
Medieval church with the archaeological remains of an early Christian basilica in Aosta.
With the advent of Christianity, the Augusta Praetoria necropolis continued to be used as a cemetery for the first bishops of Aosta and their followers. A basilica was later built to protect the tombs, but was destroyed by fire three centuries later. The present-day church was built in the Middle Ages, and was remodeled until the 17th century. Don't miss the archaeological remains of the early Christian basilica in the basement.
