ROMAN BRIDGE
A remarkable bridge near the Arch of Augustus in Aosta.
Built with elegant stone blocks at the end of the 1st century BC (under the Emperor Augustus) to cross the Buthier stream, it is the first ancient monument in Aosta to welcome visitors coming from the east of the city. (under the emperor Augustus) to cross the Buthier torrent, it is the first ancient monument in Aosta to welcome the visitor coming from the east of the city. Located at about 150 m from the Arch of Augustus, it represents a part of the city called "Stone Bridge district". Perfectly preserved and still used today, it is 18 m long and 6 m wide. But there is no more water flowing underneath! The bed of the torrent has moved tens of meters over the centuries.
