SANCTUAIRE NOTRE-DAME-DE-GUÉRISON
Church with a remarkable statue of the Virgin in Courmayeur, testimony of the faith and of the alpine religious architecture.
A testimony to Alpine faith and religious architecture, the sanctuary of Notre-Dame-de Guérison was built in 1792 on a pile of stones, which is why it was once dedicated to the "Vierge du Berrier", berrier meaning "rock" or "stone" in patois. However, in 1819, the sanctuary was destroyed by the advancing Brenva glacier, with the exception of the statue of the Virgin, which remained intact - a true miracle! The church was rebuilt in 1867.
