Garden rich in alpine species in La Thuile, the first of its kind in the Aosta Valley.
Founded in 1897 by Abbot Pierre Chanoux, this garden was the first of its kind in the Aosta Valley. Internationally renowned for its 4,000 alpine species, it was abandoned in 1940 during the war and rebuilt around 1975. Today, about 1,600 alpine plant species are planted in ecological niches (limestone rocks, siliceous moraines, peat bogs, stream banks, etc.) corresponding to their ecosystem and are grouped according to their geographical origin. The flowering period is from the end of July to mid-September.
