SAINT VINCENT CHURCH
Romanesque church with a museum of sacred art in Saint-Vincent.
This Romanesque church was built by the Benedictines in the 11th century on the remains of a Roman building. The contrast between the sobriety of the whole and the richness of the pictorial decoration of the apse, which is still well preserved, can be seen from the entrance. The 15th century frescoes have been attributed to Giacomino da Ivrea. The apse, ravaged by fire in 1553, was repainted by Filippo da Varallo. The crypt still has its Romanesque structure: beautiful stone pillars surmounted by capitals decorated with leaves and volutes. Nice little museum of sacred art.
