PROVOSTRY OF ST. GILLES AND PARISH CHURCH
Primitive monastery in Verres composed of buildings including the church with a small bell tower and the chapel with its three-lobed window.
A primitive monastery is thought to have been founded in the 10th century, but the presence of monks is first attested in 1050. Buildings were erected between the 11th and 18th centuries, including the village church, built in 1775 on the remains of a Romanesque church, of which only the small bell tower remains. The main building and adjacent bell tower were built in 1512 by Provost Charles de Challant. The Maison de Challant chapel features a typical Valle d'Aosta three-lobed window.
