One of Milan's most chic and exclusive cafés, opened in 1817. A favorite meeting place for the Milanese and Italian intelligentsia of the Risorgimento (Mazzini and Garibaldi were among its famous customers), it was here in 1848 that Milan's bourgeois revolutionaries organized the "Five Days of Milan" revolts against the Austrians, a participation rewarded in 1868 when coins were minted at its sign. Destroyed during the Second World War, Cova was rebuilt in 1950 and moved to via Montenapoleone.
