SAN BERNARDINO ALLE OSSA
Eccentric building unique in the panorama of Milanese churches.
An eccentric building that closes off the north side of Piazza Santo Stefano, unique in the panorama of Milanese churches. In fact, the ossuary chapel dedicated to San Bernardino is entirely covered with human bones, which probably belonged to the deceased patients in the nearby hospital (the Ca'Granda, now a university). The bones are artistically arranged, and make up friezes and drawings in contrast with the black background of the walls. Very solemn, this decoration is the extreme expression of a rather macabre baroque.
