BASILICA SANT'EUSTORGIO
Basilica in honor of the Magi, preserving relics in a large Roman sarcophagus.
Built by Bishop Eustorgio (315-331) in honour of the Magi, whose relics he kept in a large Roman sarcophagus, the present 11th-century building houses a magnificent testimony to the art of the Lombard Renaissance: the Portinari Chapel. Built in 1466 by the Florentine architect Michelozzo, this beautiful chapel is decorated with remarkable frescoes by Vincenzo Foppa. It houses the tomb of the martyr Saint Peter of Verona. Foppa's brightly coloured frescoes illustrate episodes from the life of Saint Peter.
