BASILICA SAN LORENZO MAGGIORE
Church preceded by 16 Romanesque Corinthian columns from a 3rd century AD temple.
This church is an important testimony of the role played by Milan in Roman and early Christian times. It is preceded by 16 Corinthian Romanesque columns from a temple of the 3rd century AD, beyond which one reaches the square where the statue of Emperor Constantine stands. The church has been rebuilt several times and has retained part of its original 4th century structure. Its eastern façade dates from the 19th century and its imposing dome (the largest in Milan) from the early 17th century.
