BASILICA DI SAN SIMPLICIANO
Church with a facade decorated with stained glass windows, representing the battle of Legnano in Milan.
One of the first basilicas founded by Saint Ambrose in the 4th century. Its construction was completed by San Simpliciano, whose name it bears. The church has undergone several alterations over the centuries, but the original structure has survived. Its façade was decorated with stained-glass windows representing the battle of Legnano between the Lombard communes and the Emperor Federico Barbarossa. In the apse there is a precious fresco by Bergognone (1470-1523), The Coronation of Mary.
