PALAZZINA APPIANI
Magnificent example of neoclassical architecture, built to accommodate the family of Napoleon.
Nestled in the heart of Parco Sempione, near the Castello Sforzersco and the Arco della Pace ("Arch of Peace") triumphal arch, the Palazzina Appiani is a magnificent example of neoclassical architecture, a remnant of the Napoleonic occupation of Milan in 1796. The palace was built to accommodate the family of Napoleon, King of Italy, during his stay in Milan, and marked the entrance to an arena that still exists today, which hosted public performances and was modeled after the Roman circuses of antiquity.
