CASA MUSEO BAGATTI-VALSECCHI
Intriguing neo-Renaissance house-museum and palace belonging to a noble Lombard family.
An intriguing house-museum in the heart of the Fashion Quadrilateral that is well worth a visit. This neo-Renaissance palace was once inhabited by two brothers, Fausto and Giuseppe, belonging to a noble Lombard family, the Bagatti-Valsecchi. These two lawyers never exercised their profession, preferring to devote themselves entirely to the restoration of their family home, its decoration and their collections. Inside, along a route that passes through themed rooms, one can admire tapestries, paintings (including a remarkable Saint Justina by Giovanni Bellini placed in the red room or bridal chamber), monumental fireplaces, four-poster beds, ceramics, ancient weapons from the 15th and 16th centuries and other objects from the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. Late 15th century frescoes decorate some of the most beautiful rooms, including the bedroom of Fausto, with its large carved wooden bed and bathroom, a perfect synthesis of modern comfort and ancient aesthetics. The tour of the museum ends with a visit to the weapons gallery, where spears, armour, shields and antique helmets are on display. This is a unique example that illustrates the taste of the eclecticism of the past and its curious interpretation of the past. Among the rare pieces collected, there are some well imitated fakes. To be visited, between one fashion boutique and the other.
