The Alpinia botanical garden, created in 1934 on the land of a simple pasture, is located high above the town of Stresa, at an altitude of around 800 metres, in the hamlet of Alpino, not far from Mount Mottarone. A natural balcony with a magnificent view over the lake, it extends over 40,000 m² and is home to over 700 varieties of Alpine plants, as well as a few species from Asia and Eastern Europe. The garden's signature flower is the bluish-petaled gentian. To get there, follow the signposted road from Gignese.
