BARADELLO CASTLE
Castle, one of the symbols of the city of Como, located on a hill.
Situated on a hill overlooking Como, at 430 meters above sea level, this castle is one of the symbols of the city. It was probably part of a Byzantine fortification system for the protection of the Larian territory. In 1156 Frederick Barbarossa erected the tower - 28 meters high - which today is clearly visible in the southern part of the city. From there, there is a magnificent view of the lake, which opens from the castle. Inside, there is a small exhibition of archaeological remains. Not far away is the Romanesque church of San Carpoforo (1025-1040).
