ABBAZIA SAN PIETRO AL MONTE
Religious complex composed by the oratory of San Benedetto and by the church of San Pietro.
The Benedictine abbey, which can be reached after an hour's walk, stands at an altitude of 662 meters. It was founded in the 7th and 8th centuries, but the present religious complex (the oratory and the church) dates back to the 11th century. The apse overlooking the valley is surrounded by a semi-circular pronaos, which gives the structure a very haughty silhouette. Above the central portal is a fresco depicting Christ handing over the keys and the Book to his apostles Peter and Paul and, inside, other scenes inspired by theApocalypse.
