AZZONE-VISCONTI EGG-LAYING
Bridge of 9 meters high and 131 meters long, also called Ponte Grande or Ponte Vecchio.
The bridge is 9 meters high and 131 meters long and is also called Ponte Grande or Ponte Vecchio. It was built by Azzone Visconti, the former lord of Milan from 1336 to 1338. Of strategic importance because of its proximity to the border of the Venetian territories at the time, the bridge was fortified and always guarded by a garrison. Elegant in appearance, resting on 11 arches, the drawbridges were pulled down during the military campaign against Bonaparte's troops. The walk on the banks with the view on the monumental work is interesting.
