The "Calcio Storico Fiorentino", a tradition as popular as it is spectacular (and as brutal), which has been going on since the 16th century.
Three games in period costumes, preceded by a historical procession. The finale consecrates the best of Florence's four medieval districts, the rione. This tradition has been going on since the 16th century, despite an interruption in the 19th century! It has little to do with classical football. The game was probably invented in military camps where soldiers were resting between two battles. It consists of a hand-to-hand struggle to conquer a round object.
