BADIA FIORENTINA
Important Benedictine monastery founded before the year 1000 undergoing a radical restoration in the early seventeenth century in Florence
Important Benedictine monastery founded before the year 1000. Renovated in the Gothic period, it underwent a radical restoration in the early 17th century. It is accessed through a corridor that leads to a Renaissance portico. The interior is distinguished by the elegant gilded wooden ceiling, and by the scenographic installation of the main altar and the presbytery. In addition to the magnificent funeral monuments of the Quattrocento, see the painting by Filippino Lippi, Apparition of the Virgin to Saint Bernard (1485). In the cloister of the Orange trees, see the frescoes by the Portuguese painter Giovanni di Consalvo.
