PALAZZO RUCELLAI
Palace built by Bernardo Rossellino, which now houses an art institute dedicated to foreign students in Florence.
The salesman Giovanni Rucellai, related to the Strozzi and the Medicis, and holding his fortune from importing a natural extract for red dye, gave Leon Battista Alberti - a dominant Renaissance personality - the care to design a palace for his family. It was built between 1446 and 1451 by Bernardo Rossellino, according to a drawing by Leon Battista Alberti. Their emblem is a wind blowing by wind, which is represented on the 1 st floor frieze. Today, the palace houses an art institute dedicated to foreign students.
