SINAGOGA E MUSEO EBRAICO
Second largest synagogue in Europe after Budapest in Florence.
Florence has the second largest synagogue in Europe after Budapest. The imposing neo-Moorish building, designed by Marco Treves and begun in 1874, has a majestic facade of white and pink stone, dominated by a large green copper dome. The interior is sumptuous, rich in decorations. The windows and arches in the shape of a horseshoe give it a Moorish style. His plan is inspired by the Basilica of Saint Sophia in Istanbul. On the first floor, the museum gathers documents on the life of Florentine Jews and beautiful objects of worship.
