MUSEO STEFANO BARDINI
Museum donated to the city by Stefano Bardini, whose collection contains works from the Romanesque period to the eighteenth century.
The museum was donated to the city of Florence by Stefano Bardini (1836-1922), an art connoisseur and skilled dealer of international renown, who set up his own gallery of antiques in the architectural complex of San Gregorio della Pace, transformed into an imposing neo-Renaissance palace. Altars, staircases, portals, columns and ceilings from churches and palaces were used to create a pleasant and ancient atmosphere that is still one of the main reasons for the museum's appeal today. The collection contains works from the Romanesque period to the 18th century, including masterpieces of painting and sculpture such as the Carità by Tino di Camaino, the Madonna dei Cordai by Donatello, the San Michele Arcangelo by Antonio del Pollaiuolo, as well as ceramics, medals, bronzes, oriental carpets, musical instruments and a small but important armory.
