Basilica dating from the first period of the Renaissance with a Greek cross plan, a masterpiece by Giuliano da Sangallo
A masterpiece by Giuliano da Sangallo (1485), the basilica dates back to the first period of the Renaissance. The exterior adopts the traditional bichromy of Prato green marble (or serpentine) and links. Its plan is a Greek cross, typical of the period. To see, the altar also made by Sangallo which houses the fresco of the Madonna delle Carceri. The stained glass windows made on a drawing by Ghirlandaio represent the Annunciation, the Nativity, the Assumption and the Visitation.
