SAN ZENO BELL TOWER
Campanile rising to more than 66 meters high in the center of the Dome square
Dating from the 12th century, this handsome bell tower rises to a height of over 66 metres in the center of the Cathedral's adjoining Place du Dôme. Its base is made of sandstone, and its three storeys are clad in white and green marble. In the past, the campanile was mainly used for civil and military purposes. Its bells marked the time and sounded the alarm in case of danger. The six bells were cast by the Terzo Rafanelli foundry. The climb up the 200 steps is rewarded by a splendid panorama of the city and surrounding countryside.
