CASTELLO DI VERRAZZANO
Superb hillside castle and vineyard, with cellar tours and Chianti wine tastings.
Giovanni da Verrazzano (1485-1528), the discoverer of New York Bay (1524), was born in this castle in the Val di Greve. For his work on behalf of King Francis I, he was awarded the French fleur-de-lis on the Verrazzano family coat of arms. In the almost thousand-year-old winery, the best vintages of the region are produced and can be tasted. Shows are held on the roof terrace of the estate, which has been perfectly restored by its owner, Cavaliere Luigi Cappellini.
