BASILICA SAN CLEMENTE IN SANTA MARIA DEI SERVI
Basilica begun by the Serviti Fathers from Monte Senarion, whose interior preserves several works of art in Siena.
Slightly eccentric, this basilica was begun in the 13th century by the Serviti Fathers from Monte Senario. Its 15th-century façade remains unfinished. Its square offers a unique view of the medieval city of Siena. The interior houses several works of art, including The Virgin and Child (1261) by Coppo di Marcovaldo. Tradition has it that this Florentine painter, imprisoned after the Battle of Montaperti in 1260, produced this work as ransom for his freedom.
