BASILICA SAN FRANCESCO
Basilica that has a remarkable width of nave and preserves remarkable works of art in Siena.
The 13th century Basilica of St. Francis, successively enlarged in the 14th and 15th centuries, with its neo-Gothic façade, has a remarkable nave width. Its interior has been sober since the great fire of 1655. Nevertheless, it preserves remarkable works of art, in particular frescoes representing the main stages of the Franciscan life of Ambrogio Lorenzetti, a masterpiece of his brother Pietro. It is here that Verdi's Requiem was first performed in 1874 and Bernardin donned the Franciscan habit in 1402.
