ORATORIO SAN BERNARDINO
Oratory housing the Museum of Sacred Art, which exhibits works of the great names of the Sienese school from the 13th to the 17th century
The Oratory of St. Bernardine (15th century) is part of the former Franciscan convent near the Basilica of St. Francis. Its façade has a porch from 1574. It houses the diocesan museum of sacred art, which exhibits works by great names from the Sienese school from the 13th to 17th centuries. This museum includes the lower oratory, with a carved bas-relief by Giovanni di Agostino, and the upper oratory, with paintings by the mannerist trio Sodoma, Girolamo del Pacchia and Beccafumi. It was here that the preacher Saint Bernardine of Siena gave his passionate preaching.
