Prestigious institution founded by the doctor Pirro Maria Gabbrielli and other professors of the University of Siena

Founded in 1691 by Dr. Pirro Maria Gabbrielli (1643-1705) and other professors from the University of Siena, this prestigious institution played a key role in the spread of the natural sciences in Europe, particularly in the Age of Enlightenment. The Academy of Physiocritics now houses a museum of natural history, with a large number of curiosities, the result of two centuries of acquisitions, including a 15-metre long whale skeleton.
