DUOMO
Dome called Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, literally covered with frescoes, including one by Ghirlandaio.
The dome of San Gimignano, called the collegiate church of Our Lady of the Assumption, dates back to 1056 and was consecrated in 1148 by Pope Eugene III. Why collegial? Because it is dependent on the diocese of Volterra. Its bell tower is equipped with eight bells from the Capanni foundry in 2003. The staircase opens onto a sober 13th century Romanesque facade. There is no indication of what the interior has in store. Indeed, the duomo is literally covered with frescoes, including that of Ghirlandaio, St. Gregory telling St. Fina of his impending death (1475) in the Santa Fina chapel.
