CASTELLO MALASPINA
Castle perched on the hill overlooking the city and seeming to take the whole region from above
Perched on its hill, Malaspina Castle dominates the city and seems to take the whole region from above. Built in the 12th century, it is the symbol of Massa. It was not until the 15th century that the castle became the property of the Marquis of Malaspina. And it is in the 17th century that the construction of the defensive apparatus, the keep and the pictorial decoration were completed. The Renaissance castle is surrounded by bastions and connected by a loggia to the medieval part. A museum invites you to discover the history of the Malaspina family, ruler of Lunigiana for eight centuries.
