TORRE DELLE ORE
The city's highest clock tower with a bird's eye view of the hand-loaded mechanism of the dial clock.
Formerly called "Tower of the Dispute", because of the endless conflicts between rival families to possess it, the Clock Tower, with its 50 m height, is the highest in the city. The first mechanical clock was placed here in 1471. Climbing it offers a view of the incredible hand-loaded mechanism of the dial clock, one of the last working examples in Europe. At the top (207 steps!), a breathtaking view of the roofs of Lucca is the reward.
