FUNICOLARE
A historic funicular, inaugurated in 1898, linking the lower part of the town with the hilltop village of Montecatini Alto.
Not to be missed! This pretty funicular links the town of Montecatini Terme, at the foot of the hill, to the "frazione" of Montecatini Alto, perched 300 meters above sea level, in just eight minutes. Designed in 1898 by Genoese engineer Alessandro Ferretti, it consists of two red carriages, nicknamed Gigio and Gigia by regulars! Practicalities: there's a departure every half-hour. Bear in mind that timetables are limited in winter, and that on the return journey to Montecatini Alto, the funicular station is on via Vittorio Veneto.
