DIOCESAN MUSEUM
Museum that houses only masterpieces of Fra Angelico located in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
Located opposite the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Diocesan Museum occupies the former Church of the Gesù (16th century). This rich art gallery houses, among others, works by Fra Angelico, including his superb Annunciazione, as well as masterpieces by Signorelli and Lorenzetti, natives of Cortona. In addition to the rich polychrome ceiling of the 16th century, visitors can admire a Roman sarcophagus from the 2nd century.
The museum overlooks the Place du Dôme, which offers an unobstructed view of the valley. Not to be missed, even if the wind is sometimes out.
