CHIESA SAN GIACOMO MAGGIORE
Church that highlights the appearance of the Catalan style, marking the Spanish influence on the area of Porto Azzurro.
The church of San Giacomo Maggiore was completed around 1656, as shown in a painting depicting Santa Barbara dated 1656, inside the Spanish fortress of Porto Azzurro. Very quickly, the church was renovated and enriched in the 18th century, particularly in terms of decoration, with the appearance of a Catalan style, marking the Spanish influence on the region. We can see tombstones of the Spanish generals who commanded Longone Square from 1694 to 1776.
