Every year the 12th of August is a great day of celebration in Marciana Marina, on the north coast of Elba Island. The inhabitants, called the Marinesi, celebrate with fervour and enthusiasm the patron saint of their town, St. Clare (St. Chiara). The event also gathers visitors who come to discover this ancestral patron saint's feast day. The religious procession, with the statue of the saint, is traditionally followed by a mass in the church of Santa Chiara dating back to 1776, followed by fireworks fired from the sea.
