PALAZZO ORSINI
Palace built on a fortress, with interior courtyards that reflect the artistic inspiration of the Renaissance
Built on a fortress, the palace was actually built in the second half of the 16th century. Count Gian Francesco entrusted the project to the famous military architect Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane. The latter chose to build two polygonal ramparts on the north and south façades. The palace's interior courtyards reflect the artistic inspiration of the Renaissance. Today, the Orsini Palace is governed by the Diocese of Pitigliano and houses two museums, one dedicated to archaeology and the other to the palace itself.
