FONTANA MAGGIORE
Splendid medieval fountain, one of the symbols of the city of Perugia.
Built between 1275 and 1278, this splendid medieval fountain, the work of Giovanni and Nicola Pisano, is one of the symbols of the city. Its 50 lower edges decorated with bas-reliefs, protected by barriers, represent the months of the year, the signs of the zodiac, liberal arts and some scenes from biblical episodes. The Three Graces, made by Giovanni Pisano, stand in the upper bronze basin, together with 24 polished panels, all separated by statuettes evoking saints or historical and mythological figures.
