FESTA DEI CERI

Three teams have to lift three platforms bearing statues of saints Ubaldo, Giorgio and Antonio onto their shoulders.
This is one of Italy's great traditional festivals, during which thousands of people throng the streets of Gubbio. Dedicated to St. Ubaldo, the town's patron saint, the race brings together three teams of men, each of whom must carry three heavy octagonal candelabra-shaped platforms on their shoulders, each nearly 5 m high and weighing around 400 kg. The course ends with a climb up Mount Ingino and entry into the Sant'Ubaldo Basilica. An impressive sight!
