MALAKOS
Museum preserving the largest private collection of shells in Europe in Citta di Castello.
Inaugurated in 2017, the Malakos Museum offers an astonishing world tour through the shells, from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. With around 3,000 catalogued specimens, it is the largest private collection of shells in Europe, the work of Florentine Gianluigi Bini, a marine biologist, paleoanthropologist and naturalist who collected around 600,000 pieces over more than 50 years. The museum even proposes the reconstruction of a coral reef. A curious paradox for a region without sea!
